ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Annabel Greenhalgh was born on the Wirral in 1955 where her love of the sea and coastal landscape was first awakened.
Annabel moved to Pembrokeshire twenty years ago where she has continued to be inspired by her surroundings. She spends much of her time on the beaches, coastal paths and hills of Wales gathering sketches, photographs, memories and inspiration.

"Pastel has a density of colour which gives me the depth and solidity I need for my work. The natural earth pigments seem to be returned in the painting to the land from which they came. Using pastel, my thoughts can flow freely through application to depiction with undisturbed controlled fluidity."

"Through my work, I hope to remind people of the emotions inspired by rolling clouds and crashing waves and to rekindle their memories of past coastal walks and holidays - to share the joy I experience from the world around us".

A 'Fischbacher' Frame
As used by Annabel Greenhalgh

Each frame is unique and completely hand-finished. Using age-old techniques developed by Italian artisans of the 14th Century, warm gesso plaster is applied in many layers to the bare wood moulding, left to dry and sanded smooth.

This is followed by a special clay bole colour. Then real gold leaf is water-gilded onto the surface, leaf by leaf and this is burnished and distressed to the desired effect.

Please note that, although we have done our best, the images presented here in this e-catalogue are only digital reproductions and cannot really do justice to the fine colouration, presentation and subtle details of the original paintings.
